DISCHARGE
Hospital staff will notify you as soon as you are able to leave the hospital.
If you have special discharge needs, the Community Liaison Nurse may visit
you and make the necessary arrangements. If possible, you should arrange
for someone to accompany you home.
Before you leave the hospital, make sure that you and those involved
in your care know how to look after you at home. Make sure you take home
your discharge medications.
Unless advised, you will be required to vacate your room by 9.30am on
the date of discharge, otherwise additional charges may apply.
Discharge at Own Risk
Except in certain cases (for example, infectious disease) every patient
has the right to leave the hospital prior to the recommended discharge
date.
This may be a serious step when taken against the advice of you doctor,
and warrants great caution. You will be asked to sign a disclaimer, as
the responsibility rests entirely with you.
If you decide to discharge yourself against the advice of your doctor
and your condition does not improve, or causes you concern, you should
not hesitate to seek further medical advice.
